We are looking for an upbeat, positive person to join our team full-time.  The Payroll and Benefits Specialist plays a crucial role in our operations, responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll, maintaining employee time records, and assisting with administering employee benefits and retirement programs. This role ensures accurate payroll and benefits processing while supporting employees regarding payroll, benefits, and leave-related inquiries.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process payroll by entering, maintaining, and updating employee information such as hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses, time worked, paid leave, deductions, and withholdings.
  • Ensure proper payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other withholdings.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger.
  • Issue or reissue physical or replacement checks or direct deposits as needed.
  • Reconcile, record, and process federal and state payroll tax deposits.
  • Ensure the accuracy of benefits enrollments in the HRIS and provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Assist with new hire orientations and distribute benefits enrollment materials.
  • Assist employees with health, dental, life and other related benefit claims.
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  • Administer COBRA.
  • Perform quality checks of payroll and benefits-related data.
  • Enroll employees in benefits programs, process life status changes, and administer leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork (medical, personal, FMLA, ADA).
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries about payroll, benefits, 401(k) plans, and leave policies.
  • Assist with annual open enrollment.
  • Generate and provide necessary reports for payroll and benefits allocations and billing.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of this position as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll processes, employee benefits, and applicable laws.
  • Experience in benefits administration or HR.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll and HRIS software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree in human resources, accounting or related field preferred.
  • Three years of experience in payroll processing, accounting, or bookkeeping.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work may involve prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer. Rarely is physical exertion such as bending, lifting (up to 15 pounds), kneeling, squatting, pivoting, and carrying items/ product required. The warehouse environment may be subject to hot and cold temperatures, and ventilation may not be available in all areas. The warehouse environment may be subject to elevated noise volumes due to equipment, machinery, and the movement of goods. The warehouse may be subject to dirt, dust, cleaning solutions, chemicals, and debris from the handling of goods. The warehouse may have safety hazards such as slippery floors, moving equipment, and the presence of hazardous materials. You will need to follow safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment.

COMPENSATION
  • $24.00 - $28.85/hour, DOE
